Combines are rolling across much of the state, and the dry weather has allowed harvest to continue mostly uninterrupted. However, that dryness can bring with it a whole different slate of issues. Southwest Iowa Beck’s Agronomist Nate Meyer said corn yields might seem a little disappointing, but they are more than adequate.
Meyer said there’s a huge disparity between crops that were treated with fungicides later in the season and those that weren’t.
The dry weather is also causing problems with crops feeding into combine heads, which is forcing farmers to harvest slower.
It’s not all doom and gloom at the end of the season, though. Meyer said that soybean yields are looking pretty good in his area, and we can always apply the lessons we learned this year to next year’s crop.
