Despite decent rainfalls over the weekend, drought conditions continue to expand across Iowa. At this point, it?s going to take a lot to even make a dent on moisture deficits in some areas. Iowa State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan gave an update on the U.S. Drought Monitor.
We?re to the point where, even though the Des Moines area is classified as D0, central Iowa is almost an oasis compared to other drier parts of the state.
Due to climate conditions across the country, Iowa has missed out on a lot of storm activity. That won?t fix itself immediately, but Glisan said we could see a slight shift soon.
Glisan added that the atmosphere isn?t as dry anymore, so hopefully we can retain more moisture from any rain we get.
Glisan also said that we can expect to see some more haze and smoke pass through from the Canadian wildfires.
