We never want to see drought conditions, but there are some silver linings when that happens. For example, the lack of moisture has limited the growth of tar spot across most of the state this year. Lauren Botine, Channel technical agronomist, said she’s had a tough time finding any tar spot in her area.
Botine said that tar spot will still probably show itself eventually, but the recent weather conditions have really helped in holding it off.
Fortunately, Botine said that tar spot is very manageable with proper crop scouting and fungicide application.
When it comes to making a plan of attack against tar spot, Botine said it’s important to talk with your local agronomist and determine what would work best for your operation.
