Drought conditions continuing as harvest gets fully underway

Drought conditions have expanded across Iowa. While the dry weather is benefitting farmers right now as they continue harvest, this could have some negative effects down the road. Iowa State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan explained the data from the most recent U.S. Drought Monitor.

Glisan said that, even though the dry weather is good for harvest, we need to keep an eye on that dryness still, as windy conditions could lead to field fires.

Normally, we get some pretty decent rain during the month of October, and previous years have indicated that the fall season is becoming progressively wetter each year. However, Glisan said we are currently seeing a conflicting dry signal in our weather patterns.
