Spring planting is right around the corner, which acts as an official start to the new crop year. Every year brings the opportunity for improvements upon the previous year, and proper data management and utilization can push sustainability and efficiency even further on a farm. Landus farmer-owner Kevin Kennedy said a mild fall and winter allowed for plenty of pre-planting work to get done.
Kennedy said he’s done tests in his fields to identify what areas are likely to have corn rootworm, so those areas will be planted with soybeans this year.
Kennedy said he also utilizes drone scouting to gather specific data on the efficacy of fertilizer applications.
Kennedy added that the drone technology allows him to look very specifically at entire fields, which is something that is almost impossible to do otherwise.
