The 36th annual Celebration of Agriculture dinner took place in Cedar Rapids last week to celebrate Iowa Ag Week. Both Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig and former U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue, who was this year’s featured speaker, were in attendance to highlight Iowa agriculture. Secretary Naig said that Iowa has an agricultural industry that its citizens can be proud of.
Naig said that Iowa Ag Week was a great time to focus on raising awareness of the ag industry and preparing the next generation of ag leaders.
Perdue spoke at the dinner and shared his experiences as U.S. Ag Secretary, and he said that one of the most enjoyable parts was to have the opportunity to get his boots on the ground and speak with farmers across the country.
Perdue added that the U.S. ag industry needs to be conscious of its position as a global leader and focus on maintaining and developing that strength.
