Boosting export growth for U.S. pork in Latin America

Consumers want to know where the products they purchase at the supermarket come from. They are interested in the process of how livestock is raised and if they can talk with a producer of that animal it can help to bridge the gap between consumers and producers.

The Latin American Product Showcase is an event that is hosted by the U.S. Meat Export Federation every two years, rotating to a different Central or South American host nation.

Al Wulfekuhle is the vice president of the National Pork Board and a producer from Iowa. He recently returned from the 2023 Latin American Product Showcase in Cartagena Colombia. He says the event is a great way for Latin American importers to make connections with meat exporters from the U.S.

Wulfekuhle says that the Latin American Showcase is a unique experience for a hog producer because it gives a front row seat to the hard work of promoting U.S. pork that is being done in international markets.

The Latin American Product Showcase connects 200+ exporters of U.S. beef, pork, and lamb with buyers from more than 30 Latin American countries. Wulfekuhle says that an event of this size is not able to come together without everyone working as a team.

He says that events like the Latin American Product Showcase allow U.S. pork to shine on the world stage. This event helps advance the NPB strategy of highlighting U.S. pork differentiation and diversification in expanding markets.
