Boehringer Ingelheim and the University of Minnesota have launched the Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (MHP) Eradication Roadmap after over ten years of research. MHP limits a pig’s ability to fight off pathogens and ultimately leads to pneumonia. Dr. Amanda Sponheim, key account veterinarian with Boehringer Ingelheim, said this leads to increased medical costs and reduced feed efficiency.

Dr. Maria Pieters, associate professor with the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine at the University of Minnesota and director of the Swine Disease Eradication Center, said that eradication of MHP is important because it doesn’t just get rid of the disease- it also decreases the likelihood of other issues arising in swine health.

Dr. Sponheim said the MHP Eradication Roadmap is designed to be a one-stop shop for all of the information on how to effectively eradicate the presence of MHP.

Dr. Pieters added that the comprehensive nature of the roadmap makes it very unique in the swine health marketplace.
