When it comes to battling corn rootworms, new tools designed to control the yield robbing pest are always welcome. Opello™ insecticide from Syngenta is the latest product to help growers take on below ground pests and could be available as soon as Spring 2026.
Kevin Langdon is the technical product lead for Opello at Syngenta and he says the liquid, at-planting, soil-applied insecticide will provide better control of corn rootworms.
Langdon says that Opello features a new active ingredient, isocycloseram, which will be trademarked as PLINAZOLIN® technology.
Langdon says the formulation of Opello is designed to offer tank mix compatibility with starter fertilizers and provide effective flowability in sprayers.
He adds that research trials and test fields have shown effective control of corn rootworm throughout the Midwest.
Syngenta is seeking registration in the U.S. for the new active ingredient and is hopeful to bring Opello to the market for release in spring 2026.
