More and more, consumers are wanting to know where their food comes from. That is understandable, and producers should be able to show them. The biggest challenges to the agriculture industry have sprung up because we aren?t always doing all we can to share the stories of the family operation. Consumers look at this like we have something to hide.
When it comes to the pork industry, the National Pork Board (NPB) says that it is wise to keep on-farm sustainability reports to show your practices to those who are interested in learning more. Producers are already doing more by following the ?We Care? principles. This is according to NPB Assistant Vice President of Sustainability Sara Crawford.
The reports are anonymous to other producers, but they show producers their scores and how they stack up against aggregates in their state and region.
The process started as a pilot program in 2018 but really ramped up this past year.
