Bayer corn traits strong for 2022 & 2023

We are almost done with the first month of 2022. Before you know it, it will be planting season in Iowa once again. The last two years have given us some interesting scenarios and have tested the genetics of many corn companies. Some tests were learning tools for what can be improved, and some tests showed that traits could excel despite being challenged. It is the latter that has Bayer ready for everything Mother Nature has in store for producers in 2022.

Travis Coffman is a Corn & Regional Crops Trait Marketing Manager for Bayer. He talks about how Bayer’s traits came out of the challenges of 2021. Drought in much of the country, followed by some relief and even over-saturation in parts of the Eastern Cornbelt.

Corn rootworm had a field day in 2021 and could look to be doing the same in 2022. Coffman encourages producers who haven?t scouted field from last year, to go out and get ahead of it in the spring. Even if you didn?t have a severe rootworm problem, it is a good idea to be protected.

Coffman explains how RNAi technology works on your corn acres.

Looking even further into the future, Coffman looks into 2023?s availability of short-stature corn traits. This is something that can endure heavier wind events, such as the derecho we had a year and a half ago. It also provides producers the opportunity to do more late-season applications of a fungicide that couldn?t happen with the tall traits.
