Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. -Psalm 55:22

This weekend my husband and I took our teenagers (he’s a youth pastor) to a Fall Retreat.

One of our youth workers was carrying her heavy bags to the cabin. Her hands were full with blankets, pillows, luggage, snacks, and more. One of our senior high boys, came up to her, asked if he could help, and grabbed almost all of the stuff out of her hand. He proceeded to carry it all for her down the long stretch to the cabin.

As I was walking down the gravel road path towards the cabin, far behind them…God allowed me to see a seen that He so often does.

Too often then not, we are walking down a long, hard, uncomfortable road, full of baggage. Our hands are full, we are tired, and we feel like we are never going to get to where we can just lay the heavy bags down.

However, that’s when He steps in, takes our burdens from our hands, and carries it. He helps us along the way. He doesn’t leave us alone after that, but instead continues to walk beside us.

Friend, He sweeps in and carries the heavy things that you no longer want to hold anymore. Give Him permission today to start taking the bags out of your hands that you no longer want to carry down the road by yourself.

Prayer: “God, thank you for carrying my burdens. Thank you for meeting me on difficult roads, and walking beside me. Thank you that I don’t have to carry the heaviness alone. Help me to turn to you for help. In your name I pray, Amen.”
