The 2026 Governor’s Charity Steer Show set a record Saturday by raising $572,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa. Owen Kahl of Tipton Iowa was one of the exhibitors in the show alongside his celebrity showman former Iowa Hawkeye and NFL Football Player Ike Boettger. Owen tells the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network that his steer Cheese is very mild mannered.
The Iowa Ag Radio Network met with Owen at the Des Moines Ronald McDonald house on Friday and he told the network that he has wanted to participate in the show for some time.
Kahl says his fundraising efforts for the show were made easy by his sponsors, the Eastern Iowa Ronald McDonald House and Quad Cities McDonald’s.
All money raised from the show benefits the three independent Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa, located in Des Moines, Iowa City, and Sioux City. These three houses have served over 55,000 families from all 50 states and many foreign countries. Families from all 99 counties in Iowa have benefited from the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa.
