The Farm Progress Show conveniently takes place just before the harvest season begins each year. It won’t be long until the farmers that are visiting the show are back at home in the cab of their combine to begin harvesting. Wade Peck is a district sales manager with Wyffels hybrids, covering Boone and Greene County. He tells the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network that corn harvesting will begin shortly in parts of Central Iowa.
Peck says that the corn crop looks promising in Central Iowa but when walking rows, he has discovered some issues from this growing season.
He adds that although the problems for corn growers this year were not overwhelming, it’s still important to learn from the growing season and apply lessons learned to next year.
Nitrogen loss was inevitable for some farmers in Central Iowa that experienced surplus rainfall and Peck says that is evident in several spots.
