Contrary to what we would normally expect, there has been a lot of market action this month. As we approach harvest season, there’s a legitimate chance that farmers might see price rallies that warrant some serious grain selling conversations. Michael Weidner, director of grain origination and producer strategy at Landus Cooperative, said the August price rally started way back with the monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report.
Weidner said these market prices are incredibly rare for this time of year.
Back in May and June, many farmers were aggressively selling grain to take advantage of the price rallies at the time. While some farmers have voiced concerns that they were too aggressive in their selling, Weidner said it was the right thing to do at the time, and there are still opportunities to take advantage of the current price rallies.
