A tree planting at the Iowa State Fairgrounds is one of many events planned this year as part of the America 250 celebration, marking the nation’s 250th birthday.

Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig, who also serves as vice chair of Iowa’s America 250 commission, says the effort includes a wide range of activities across the state, from large signature events to smaller community celebrations.

Naig says the tree planting effort, which includes a goal of planting 250 trees across Iowa with the help of 4-H and FFA, is meant to leave a lasting impact and connect younger generations to the celebration.

He says that focus on youth involvement is a key part of the initiative, helping reinforce the idea of investing in the future.

Naig says events tied to America 250 will continue throughout the year, including activities at the Iowa State Fair and in communities across the state.

He says those events will highlight Iowa’s contributions to the nation while bringing people together to celebrate the milestone.

Naig says the celebration is also an opportunity to look ahead, encouraging younger generations to take an active role in shaping the future.

He says America 250 provides a chance to reflect on the country’s history while recognizing the effort and sacrifice that helped build it, and to carry those lessons forward for the next generation.
