Food Bank of Iowa receives another crucial donation

Today, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought in a second truckload of food to complete a 72,000-pound donation to the Food Bank of Iowa. This is the organization’s second donation to the Food Bank of Iowa, with the first being in February 2024. Food Bank of Iowa President and CEO Tami Nielsen said this donation could not have come at a better time.

Susan Sims, communications director of the Iowa and western Illinois region of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said  this donation fits in with their goal to care for and lift up people across the world.

Sims said food hungry Iowans deserve more than to just not go hungry- they need to be able to retain their sense of dignity as well.

Recently, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the state would be matching up to $1 million of the donations made to food banks across to the state. Nielsen said this effort is greatly appreciated, but there’s still plenty of work to do to keep Iowans from going hungry.

For people who are interested in donating, Nielsen said they can stretch your dollar even further than you can.
