The discussion on fertilizer this fall has put a lot of farmers between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand prices for commodities are low but on the other hand fertilizer prices are elevated. That leaves the grower often wondering if they should cut back on fertilizer. Of course, that then leaves the grower in a tough spot because you cannot cut back on fertilizer and expect to have optimal conditions for next growing season.
Mark Christianson is a product manager with Helena and says there is a middle ground to help mitigate some of the problems with this tough decision-making process. He says that humic products from Helena can help to improve efficiency of soil applied nutrients.
Christianson says that if growers need to cut back on fertilizer, they should use a product to help improve the efficiency of the amount of fertilizer that is applied.
