The Secure Pork Supply Plan, or SPS, helps producers proactively plan for enhanced biosecurity, animal traceability, and disease monitoring for both foreign animal disease outbreaks endemic diseases. Meredith Peterson, director of swine health for the National Pork Board, said the program has several layers, beginning with strong biosecurity measures.
Secure Pork Supply plans can be stored within AgView, a Checkoff-funded, secure traceability tool.
Over the past few years, the swine industry has sharpened its focus on protecting the U.S. herd from foreign animal diseases and preparing for an outbreak. Producers must understand what will be expected of them and how to respond quickly. Peterson said they’re currently working to update the Secure Pork Supply Plan to better meet producers’ needs.
