Last week Iowa Deputy Agriculture Secretary Grant Menke had the chance to lead a trade mission, with the Iowa Economic Development Council to the countries of Japan and Taiwan. Today we will focus on the Taiwan portion of the trip.
While Taiwan isn’t as large of a trading destination for our agricultural goods, they still do a respectable amount of business with the United States. Menke runs down how much business we do annually.
Because Taiwan is so self-sufficient in pork production, we see a little bit of a barrier there. Menke feels that there is room for growth in the future.
The U.S. Meat Export Federation has been working hard to expand our market access in Taiwan. Deputy Secretary Menke tells us more.
Menke says trips like this to Taiwan and Japan can do a lot to help us get our products in front of their consumers.
