Corn rootworm can cause significant yield loss but the best way to deal with the pest is to develop your plan for the yield robbers before planting. That’s according to Kevin Langdon a technical product lead for insecticides with Syngenta.
Langdon says that corn on corn acres are at the biggest risk for yield loss from corn rootworm.
He says that while crop rotation is a great way to reduce pressure from these yield robbing pests, crop rotation alone does not completely deal with the problem.
Langdon says that new research has shown that traditional management strategies for corn rootworm might not be the best solution for growers to control the insects.
According to Langdon, growers should be applying insecticide while planting to control the larvae of corn rootworm.
Langdon says that the new Plinazolin technology from Syngenta will help corn growers battle corn rootworm in the Midwest.
