The Iowa State Fair kicked off today, and at the crack of dawn this morning, floriculture exhibitors were in the John Deere Ag Building preparing their flowers that they spent all summer growing. This year’s show was the biggest one in several years with over 1,000 entries. Andrea Spencer, superintendent of the floriculture show, said many FFA members were milling about as they prepared their exhibits.

Most people think of cattle and swine shows when they think of the Iowa State Fair, but the flower exhibitors have to put in just as much work to prepare for the Iowa State Fair.

In fact, the floriculture show even has a showmanship competition.

Spencer said the show is also a great educational opportunity for the fair’s attendees.
