Sign-ups still open for PFI’s N Rate Risk Protection Program

Farmers are always looking for ways to increase their sustainability while also improving their ROI, but sometimes that comes with an unavoidable amount of risk. Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) is offering its N Rate Risk Protection Program to help encourage farmers to take that chance to be more sustainable by offsetting some of that financial risk, and that deadline has been extended through the end of this month. Chelsea Ferrie, PFI’s field crops viability coordinator, said that enrolled farmers who experience a yield loss after reducing their nitrogen rate will receive a per acre payment from PFI to help offset that loss.

Ferrie said this program is available to farmers in surrounding states as well.

Reducing nitrogen isn’t just a sustainability move, though- it also cuts down on input costs.

The deadline to apply was recently extended to April 30th, and Ferrie said interested farmers can apply online.

Ferrie added that, while this program is different from a cost share program, it is still a proactive way to protect yourself from potential yield losses while also cutting down on inputs.
