As the United States House of Representatives attempts to vote on the next Speaker of the House, United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says that the next Speaker will ultimately have little sway over the farm bill process this year.
As the House plays politics to determine the next speaker, Grassley says that he does not see the Speaker selection and farm bill as intertwined.
While Grassley sees an extension of the current farm bill as the most likely outcome, there are downsides to an extension of current farm policy.
In addition to the farm bill discussion, Grassley addressed reporters on Tuesday by talking about the impact to U.S. agriculture brought on by turmoil and conflict in Israel.
Senator Grassley made his comments Tuesday morning during his weekly ag conference call with broadcasters and reporters.
