Today, NASCAR announced that it is bringing a Cup Series race to the Iowa Speedway for the first time on Sunday, June 16th, 2024. The state of Iowa has been working hard for many years to bring the Cup Series to the Iowa Speedway, which is one of the most challenging short tracks in the country. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said that the values of NASCAR align closely with the values of Iowans.

Speaking of value, Reynolds said that Cup Events can generate around $100 million of economic impact for the communities that host the races.

Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Senior Vice President of Racing Development and Strategy, said they anticipate this race to be one of the most highly anticipated dates on their 2024 schedule.

NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski was also involved in campaigning for the addition of the Iowa Speedway to the Cup Series because he said he was impressed with the track and the facility from day one.

NASCAR Hall of Famer and Iowa Speedway co-founder and designer Rusty Wallace echoed the appreciation for the event, saying that this upcoming race is “a dream come true.”

Craig Floss, CEO of the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, said this race will also be a great showcase of Iowa’s ethanol industry, as NASCAR drivers themselves have been using ethanol for over a decade.

Iowa State Representative Jon Dunwell, who lives in Newton, added that he is truly excited to see so many different people come together to make a difference in an Iowa community.

On-sale ticket information for the first-ever Cup Series Race Weekend at Iowa Speedway will be announced in the near future. But for now, fans can put down a $25 deposit for priority access to purchase tickets before the public on-sale at iowaspeedway.com.

Tomorrow, we will talk about what this all means for Iowa farmers with Iowa Corn Growers Association President Jolene Riessen.
