With the potential of a government shutdown looming, funding concerns are rampant throughout the government and in the agriculture sector. The United States Congress is currently working on a spending bill which if not agreed upon, would bring a partial government shutdown beginning October 1st.

United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) was asked during his weekly ag conference call on Tuesday about which farm programs will be able to continue if a shutdown occurs.

Grassley says that despite the intention of saving money, a government shutdown might not have the intended effect.

Senator Grassley says that farmers and producers already have enough concerns in the daily operation of their farms. They do not need the added stress of uncertainty from the federal government.

Senator Grassley made his comments Tuesday morning during his weekly press call with ag broadcasters and reporters.
