Continued drought conditions and some powerful storms have provided challenges for crops this year. There was a lot of variability in both of those factors across the entire Grain Belt, but most areas saw at least some complications. Mitch Heisler, Wyffels product and agronomy manager, said he was impressed with how their modern line of hybrids was able to handle this year’s challenges.
Instead of writing this year off as an outlier, Heisler said they’ve been able to learn a lot through the challenges of this growing season.
In particular, Heisler said they learned a lot about this year’s new lineup of seed varieties.
This year’s yields, much like the challenges that faced the crops as they grew, will be variable. For example, some areas in Illinois were hit by a derecho and excessive dryness, so those yields will likely be lower. However, Heisler said there’s been some impressive rebound for farmers who planted Wyffels hybrids.
Since they’ll have a lot of data on this year’s hybrids, Heisler said farmers can look forward to the improvements Wyffels will have for next year.
