The 41st Governor’s Charity Steer Show took place in the livestock pavilion on the State Fairgrounds this past weekend. Marcus Gaul from Strawberry Point was the owner of the steer shown by Governor Kim Reynolds.
“My steer’s name is Frank the Tank we thought of that name my mom did she said it would be cool because he’s pretty big steer,” Gaul said.
In addition to the daily care routines, of course, there have been several shows for Frank the Tank, which have qualified him to be the Governor’s Steer in the Governor’s Charity Steer Show.
“Showed at the Clayton County Fair and Frank actually won the County Fair,” Gaul said. “I also showed a goat there and won the market show. We showed at the Big Four Fair in Postville, which was our Northeast Iowa Showdown qualifier because Clayton County Fair is so late.”
In 41 years, $4.9 million has been raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities at the show, where Marcus has a personal connection.
“I have had a kid in my class who had to use the Ronald McDonald House when he battled leukemia in Iowa City,” Gaul said.
