Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. -Ephesians 5:1-2
The other day I was in a clothing store talking to the manager.
There was a lady checking out. We laughed about something and she walked out the door.
A few minutes passed, and she came back in. She asked the manager for a glass a water because she had just received some bad news.
The manager got her some water and the lady thanked her and headed out the door. As she walked out she said under her breath, “I’ve had cancer before, I don’t want it again.” And just like that she was gone.
I wish I was writing this to tell you some amazing story of how I got to pray with her, and tell her that God is walking through her in the valley of unknown, but I can’t.
I can’t tell you that part of the story because I did absolutely nothing. I stood there, and I watched her walk out.
God didn’t ask me about it until I was on my way home. “Whitney, why did you not go after that woman when she walked out the door?”
I didn’t know her, but she knew I loved Jesus, and yet I did nothing. Now I can only pray for her from afar.
How often do we miss opportunities to chase after someone? Do we stop when we see someone on the side of the road? Do we step out of our comfort zone and be Jesus to people Jesus places right in front of us?
Don’t be like me. Don’t miss opportunities to be Jesus in someone’s life. Look around, if you are willing to step out God will put someone right in front of you.
Prayer: “God, forgive me for missing that lady and missing all the other people I have. Help me to see opportunities to be you to the people I come in contact with. In your name I pray, Amen.”
