Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God?s will for you in Christ Jesus. -1 Thessalonians 5:18
I love Thanksgiving. I especially love Thanksgiving because I get to be with my family, and I get to eat all of my favorite food….multiple times over.
Those are all good things, but Thanksgiving is more than a day off. It is more than eating mashed potatoes and gravy, watching football, and taking a food induced nap.
Thanksgiving is essential and a continuous concept found in scripture. Although it is good to set aside a Thursday each November to cultivate a heart of thanksgiving, scripture has more to say about giving thanks than one day a year can handle. God is good, and every good gift comes from Him. Do we acknowledge that? Let that sink into your heart and life. Every good thing in your life comes from God. Wow. I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of good things in my life, that I don’t do enough thanking God for.
Being a Christ-follower is a heart of thankfulness all day, every day. Every minute, of every month. Always. We should constantly be living in gratitude to our great God.
As I have been reflecting on this upcoming holiday, I found myself desperately wanting God to find me grateful every day, for all of His gifts, whether they are spiritual or material.
Friend, may He find you to be His grateful child today, tomorrow, and every day.
Prayer: “God, thank you for who you are. Thank you for your life, my life, and the gifts you continually lavish me with. I pray that I have a heart of gratitude always, not just during this month. In your name I pray, Amen.”
