You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry -Psalm 10:17

needle-and-thread

God see’s our pain and knows when we suffer. But just because he sees our discomfort is no guarantee that he will act to stop it.

Let me paint a picture. A daughter was trying to thread a needle through an article of clothing. It was difficult for her. Every time she tried, she poked herself in the finger, causing herself to bleed a couple times. Her dad stood back and watched her, without her knowing. She continued trying. His instinct was to go help her as soon as he saw the first drop of blood, but instead he wisely stood back, knowing that she could do it. After a couple minutes, she finally did it. When she did, she came running saying, ?Daddy, Look, I did it!? She was so proud that she had threaded the needle, that she had forgotten about the pain.

The pain turned out to be a good thing for this little girl. The father was wise enough to have foreseen it was going to be good.

God is much wiser that us. Meaning, God is wise enough to foresee that we need some pain for reasons that we may not understand. He foresees it as being necessary to bring some eventual good. Therefore, he’s not being evil by allowing that pain to exist.

Friend, God cares about your pain. He also cares about your life, and the good that will come from the pain you’re facing. Trust that He knows exactly what He’s doing.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for caring so much about me that you teach me something in my pain. Thank you for creating good out of horrible things. I trust that you know what you’re doing. In your name I pray, Amen.
