Good news has come for Canadian beef producers. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency reported Canada was bovine tuberculosis free on Monday.

The finding closes an extensive two-year study. In 2016, some Canadian sourced cattle tested positive for bovine tuberculosis in a U.S. Slaughterhouse. About 30,000 animals were tested from 150 herds. During the start of the study, 11,500 animals had to be destroyed. Producers received an estimated $39 million in compensation.

While the source of the infection was never found, no new infections were found after the initial culling. The study is now closed, and Canada will be allowed to keep its ?tuberculosis-free? status in global trade.
