While the rains here in Iowa have been helpful, the rains in Brazil have done more harm than good. Harvest has been delayed- which means planting is delayed too- and farmers are worried about missing the optimal planting conditions. Allendale commodity broker Greg McBride provided an update on the latest weather patterns for Brazil and Argentina.
McBride said that Mato Grosso, which usually plants early, is significantly behind and could have about a fifth of its safrinha crop get planted outside of the optimal timeframe.
Of course, Brazil will still have a record-setting crop, but McBride said it?ll almost certainly be below the original expectations.
Not much is different in Argentina, though. McBride said things still aren?t looking good down there.
McBride also provided some advice for Iowa producers.
