Recently, Case IH kicked off their celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Farmall tractor line. Originally, Bert R. Benjamin, an engineer for International Harvester, set out to design a tractor that could replace horses and, fittingly, ?farm all.? Since then, Farmall has been an icon of modern farming, with a deeply-rooted place in agriculture?s history and culture. Joe Miller, Case IH tractor product marketing manager, detailed Farmall?s 100-year journey.
With such strong ties to agriculture, Farmall is deeply connected to Iowa as well. In fact, Miller said the oldest existing Farmall in Case IH?s possession was originally sold to a farmer in Iowa.
Over the years, the purpose of the Farmall series has evolved alongside the needs of farmers. Miller highlighted two important years- 1985 and 2003- that contained the biggest shifts for the Farmall name.
Today, Farmall is cemented as a cultural icon in agriculture. Many Farmall tractors are even passed down through generations as family heirlooms- in fact, I have a 79-year-old H that I inherited from my grandfather. Miller said this sense of pride we have for the Farmall line is important in keeping people close to agriculture, especially as families become further removed from the farm.
Overall, Miller said these tractors, even if they?re no longer being used to farm, hold the memories of 100 years of farming.
This year, Case IH is going to be directly celebrating those 100 years of Farmall tractors. In honor of their anniversary, Miller said they?ve decided to hold a giveaway for a new Farmall 75C tractor.
Miller added that they?re excited to be celebrating 100 years, and they look forward to the next 100 years as well.
