Bayer officials have announced the company received EPA approval for its newest corn product.
Sean Cohen, Bayer Corn Launch Lead, tells IARN that VT4PRO with RNAi Technology will provide U.S. farmers an additional option within the already-strong Bayer corn product portfolio to help control troublesome above-ground and below-ground pests.
?We are really excited about this product because we think it?s going to have the widest spectrum of control for a Bayer product,? said Cohen. ?We?re expecting it to launch in 2024. We really feel like VT4 is going to bolster our corn portfolio.?
Cohen says Bayer plans to conduct large scale field testing of VT4PRO Technology during the 2022 and 2023 growing seasons.
?Testing it for efficacy, for yield, and for germ,? said Cohen, ?to be able to provide the best guidance to our field and to our customers about how to use this product on their farms.?
VT4PRO will complement other products like SmartStax PRO.
?Corn rootworm is known as the $2 million bug,? said Cohen. ?It can be very harmful on a grower?s farm. That combined with the above-ground pressures of the six different kinds of worms could eat into those profits.?
Bayer plans to launch commercial volumes as early as 2024, pending state regulations.
