Boone farmer reflects on year and tariffs

I visited with a wonderful farm family last Saturday at Des Moines’ Downtown Farmers’ Market. The patriarch, Greg Rinehart, stopped selling vegetables to talk to me about farming, farm policy and living a good life.
Greg is a row crop farmer, but also grows and sells vegetables at farmers markets. He and his wife Polly have ten children and now 18 grandchildren. I asked him about the year he has had and what he thinks of the overall prospects for farming right now.

You can find Greg and his family every Saturday at Des Moines’ Downtown Farmers’ Market, near the old courthouse on Court Avenue.
