Lessons learned from last year’s growing season

by | Apr 5, 2023 | 5 Ag Stories, News

Planting time is quickly arriving, and farmers are prepping their equipment and planning for the day that they will get their planters into the field.

Derek Whalen a Channel technical agronomist says that one of the biggest lessons learned in growing season 2022 is that corn rootworm is still one of the primary threats to corn in Iowa.

Whalen says that the spring weather pattern is typically more indicative of the amount of corn rootworm pressure than the weather pattern from the previous winter.

He says that adequate sub soil moisture is a necessity for Iowa farmers who are preparing to plant.

Derek Whalen spoke with the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network at Commodity Classic in March.
