The Senate is expected to confirm Governor Terry Branstad as ambassador to China early next week.

Governor Branstad is expected to be confirmed as ambassador to China no later than 5:30 p.m. EDT Monday. This comes from a tweet by Senator Chuck Grassley earlier this week.

Senator Joni Ernst says she was hoping the senate would vote on him this week but that didn?t happen.

?It has been back-up until next week. We?ll continue pushing for that. He had great support coming out of his committee hearing and he is exactly the right person at the right to build our relations with China.?

Last week, both sides of the isle on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee overwhelmingly supported Branstad.

?He really has done a great job in Iowa working with all parties. He works with all different types of group and has been an outstanding leader in that area?He has shown the entire congressional committee that he has what it takes to be a wonderful advocate for the U.S.A.,? Ernst said.

Ernst adds it?s good the governor already has a close relationship with China so he can skip the meet and greet and get the ball rolling on more important issues.

?We do have number of other issues with China as we look at the development in the South China Sea and North Korea with nuclear aspirations. There are a number of tough issues beyond agriculture and I think the governor will be able to dig into those issues as ambassador.?
