La Ni?a?s effects can differ greatly in close parameters

The warm and dry weather pattern known as La Ni?a has more than worn-out its welcome in the ?I-states? and the plains states. It feels like it has been on a constant repeat for well over a year. As we get set for what is expected to be another drought, we are also learning that the weather pattern can vary greatly in just a short distance.

Dr. Jamie Patton is a soil scientist at the University of Wisconsin. She talks about how La Ni?a will not have a huge impact on the great lakes states, and won?t cause any drastic differences in their growing season.

However, the states of Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana are set up to have drought conditions in 2022. For Iowa, this is especially bad news, because last year was abnormally dry as well. This will cause a big issue when we are counting on every bushel of production this year.

In the grand scheme of things, the I-states are not that far from the Great Lakes Region, but they are looking at a huge difference in summertime forecasts. Of course, none of this means anything until the crop is harvested.
