Corteva Agriscience offers growers solutions to combat difficult weeds and disease throughout the 2019 growing season. Dave Roome, customer technical specialist with Corteva Agriscience, provides an overview of the challenges faced during the 2018 growing season.
?Overall, I think people are starting to get their arms around difficult weed species in their fields. We certainly were challenged by areas being too wet, areas being too dry. As far as disease goes, it was probably as heavy of disease pressure in corn and soybeans as we have had in many years,? Roome said.
Corteva Agriscience offers a vast portfolio of weed treatments, which offers growers opportunities to escalate weed control.
?For instance, the pre-emergence herbicides in corn, like SureStart and Resicore, have multiple modes of action. They can be used in different ways, giving you some flexibility,? Roome said. ?In soybeans, we?re looking at EverpreX, which is a layered, pre-type herbicide that extends that weed control to canopy. Things like that have really moved along within the new company.?
Corteva Agriscience understands growers face financial stresses. Roome tells farmers looking to cut input costs: the process ?takes some planning.?
?It takes some real effort. Take time with your trusted advisor, retailer or whoever it might be in your area. They get information from our territory managers at Corteva. They then can look at those solutions acre-by-acre,? Roome said. ?You might be able to trim some costs on 300 acres over at grandma?s. The other 400 acres down on the bottom, you?re going to have to spend to make sure that you can produce an abundant crop in that acreage.?
