Seed Consultants Kick Off Winter Agronomy Meetings
Seed Consultants kicks off their winter agronomy meetings beginning January 4th. Mike Earley, Director of Replicated Research, says there’s a lot of information to discuss.
“With all the water issues that we had, a lot of the leaf diseases in the corn that we faced this year, how we got through those treated versus untreated, and this kind of thing. So we’re going to get through a lot of information and also on some foliar treatments we’ve tried to see what worked and what didn’t work and things we can pass on to the grower.”
What will be top of mind for farmers at this year’s meetings? Earley says it all starts with the markets.
“I think we get into the commodity markets we’ve got now, what they can do to keep yields up to help prevent some of the problems we’ve had in this last year. That’s where a lot of the interest is, how we can get through that and get through this period we’re going through.”
Earley says there won’t be a ton of new product lines to discuss, but rather getting through the agronomic concerns of farmers.
“We can say yeah, some of this is varietal, we need some new lines that might be better for us in the future. Like I said, we’re going to have a lot of good information just like we always have in the past.”
As far as the discussion on corn versus soybean acres, Earley says it’s always a popular topic.
“It’s been an issue all along because of the commodity prices that we have. Most of us in the business your best things is to stay in a rotation if any way possible. You can’t put a price on a rotation.”
