Climate-smart practices are nothing new to the agriculture industry. We have been constantly looking for ways to do a better job of protecting our land, water, and air. Without these, we cannot hope to be successful either now or in future generations.

A year ago, the United States Department of Agriculture started the Climate Smart Commodities Program. Since its inception, the USDA has paid out roughly $3 Billion in funds to 141 projects. United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack made comments earlier this week marking the anniversary.

Among his comments, Vilsack said that because of these investments, we are going to see more small operations saved.

Vilsack says that agriculture will lead the way to environmental improvement. We will be the leader that other industries will follow.

Vilsack says the climate-smart projects are going to become more recognized in the grocery store soon.
