A couple of weeks ago we had the chance to talk with Iowa soybean producer April Hemmes as she was in San Francisco for the Soy Connext event which connected soybean growers from around the country with international customers to help tell the story of what we’re doing to better produce soybeans in the United States, as well as share the story of American farmers. The event was hosted by the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC).

Jim Sutter is the CEO of the USSEC, and he talks about the success they had in the event. Events like Connext could lead to higher profits for soybean farmers.

As April Hemmes mentioned a few weeks ago, sustainability was top of mind for international buyers. More and more, we are getting questions from our consumers and their purchasers about what we’re doing to help do better for the environment while still producing sustainable products that can address hunger and other industrial uses around the world.

Sutter says that this year’s event was the biggest one yet and it was a great opportunity for business development.

Sutter says he came away with five reasons for optimism despite the challenges that are facing the US soybean industry at this point. He says it’s all about looking to the future.
