UPL, a global leader in sustainable agriculture solutions, has unveiled a new highly efficient weed management tool.

At the 2022 Commodity Classic in New Orleans, UPL officials introduced PREVIEW 2.1 SC, a multi-mode-of-action herbicide that controls weeds early in the season and protects the crop with residual to limit the time that a second flush of weeds have to emerge. James Coday, strategic marketing manager for UPL, says PREVIEW 2.1 has residual control of even the most devastating resistant broadleaf weeds in soybean fields.

?PREVIEW 2.1 SC is a liquid pre-mix herbicide combination of metribuzin (Group 5) and sulfentrazone (Group 14). It?s a 2:1 ratio of those active ingredients,? said Coday. ?Those are familiar to a lot of growers, but we are really excited about the formulation and the load it carries building that foundation for a good weed resistant management program.?

Coday says the new herbicide offers extended residual control.

?Our data suggests that we?re getting an additional 10-14 days out of other products in the market today. Going deeper into the season, maybe not giving that next flush to come up as early so that you can get to canopy. The other is crop safety. When we look at PREVIEW 2.1 compared to the standards in the market today, we are 20 percent safer than what you see. We?re excited about those two things.?

PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide has received registration approval from the Environmental Protection Agency. There will be limited supplies in place for the 2022 growing season.

?We?re going to have a limited availability in this first year,? said Coday. ?So, we will be available for production this year. It?s a preemergent, so we are getting close to that time when we are going to need to start thinking about it, but we?ll have product available for growers that want to give it a try.?

Featuring a novel suspension concentrated (SC) formulation technology from UPL, PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide will maintain its product stability until it reaches the sprayer tank, where it becomes an excellent tank mix partner with other herbicides and additives. PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide can be used to treat conventional and traited soybean acres.
