For many generations, both corn and soybeans have been a high-quality feed for livestock, and the livestock have provided rich manure to fertilize the crops. Gordon Spronk, vice president of the National Pork Board, said the sustainability circle between livestock and crops is beneficial for soil health.
Spronk said it’s incredibly important that agricultural organizations continue working together.
While tillage is used as a soil management tool, it can also be helpful when feeding livestock.
Pig farmers can benchmark, measure, and document their sustainability efforts on-field and in-barn by signing up for a Checkoff-funded Pork Cares Farm Impact Report at porkcheckoff.org.
