Yesterday, we started a conversation with Venus Welch-White, Acting Director of the EPA Office of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OARA). We talked about the Endangered Species Act, the power of the courts with the EPA, and more. Today we will continue that conversation about other agricultural topics.
When it comes to ethanol production, the EPA now has control over setting the volumes for production. While many may not pleased with the numbers, Welch-White says that Administrator Regan was adamant that farmers needed to at least have those numbers available and know where they stood.
Increasing the numbers may be another discussion. However, Welch White says that the EPA is willing to engage with all stakeholders on this issue.
There was also news coming out of the EPA about the Farm Ranch Rural Communities Committee. Welch-White talked about the new membership on the board. Iowa will continue to have representation on the committee.
You can find our whole discussion with Venus Welch-White in yesterday’s episode of Ag Matters PM.
