Short stature corn suits the nature of corn production

One of the newest and most unique developments in seed technology has been the emergence of short stature corn. Believe it or not, there are many different benefits to having shorter corn, like having a greater resistance to wind damage. Myron Stine, president of Stine Seeds, said they didn’t necessarily intend to create shorter corn hybrids, but they kept going with it once they realized the benefits.

Since corn plants are naturally most efficient when they produce just one ear, the main goal is to be able to plant them as thick as possible. Stine said the shorter height of the corn allows for just that.

Stine added that they are very excited for farmers to see all of the new developments they have planned for the future as well.
