Yesterday, we talked with Iowa Deputy Ag Secretary Grant Menke about his recent trade trip to Colombia, and how he used the opportunity to showcase Iowa goods. Not to be outdone by his Deputy, Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig has also made a recent trade trip across the pond to Great Britain. It’s a market that is in a lot of flux for various reasons. Secretary Naig says the opportunity to go over to the UK was a great moment to bookend his visit with UK Farming Minister Mark Spencer after he visited Iowa a few weeks ago.
Secretary Naig says that despite the fact the UK is not going to be our biggest customer, it is still wise to diversify our portfolio and do it with old friends. Naig also talks about some of the technology being developed in the UK, that could get a practical trial in the fields of Iowa.
Naig also talks about how the “Brexit” is affecting the scope of trade between the U.S. and the UK.
We will have the full discussion on Secretary Naig’s trip to the UK on tomorrow’s edition of AgMatters PM.
