The fight over biofuels in Washington continues, with policymakers debating renewable fuel standards and support for ethanol and biodiesel. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins addressed the issue Monday night at the Ag Leaders Dinner in Ankeny, Iowa, emphasizing the Trump administration’s commitment to rural economies and sustainable energy. She acknowledged the challenges facing the biofuels sector while reaffirming its role in reducing carbon emissions and supporting American agriculture.
Rollins noted that in Iowa, biofuels are always part of the conversation, recognizing their vital role in the state’s economy. She expressed gratitude to the Elite Octane in Atlantic team for hosting her earlier in the day and thanked the producers and industry workers who help drive the success of homegrown fuels.
Rollins highlighted the administration’s announcement earlier that day regarding new funding for the Higher Blends Infrastructure Investment Program. She emphasized that the initiative will expand biofuel access by supporting infrastructure improvements for higher ethanol and biodiesel blends.
Rollins emphasized that Iowa is key to the Trump administration’s vision for American energy independence, given its leadership in biofuel production. She stressed that expanding ethanol and biodiesel use not only supports farmers but also reduces reliance on foreign energy sources.
Rollins outlined her plans to collaborate with the EPA to ensure that Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) support biofuel producers and rural communities. She emphasized the importance of clear and consistent policies that provide stability for farmers and the renewable fuels industry.
Rollins stated that it’s time for the federal government to step back and let farmers do what they do best—feed and fuel the nation. She emphasized that the government should focus on supporting farmers by providing the tools and resources they need to succeed. Ensuring fair policies and reducing regulatory burdens, she said, will help agriculture and biofuels thrive.
