For many years, farmers have learned about the benefits of cover crops on their farms. There are plenty of cover crop seed and application businesses to help farmers utilize cover crops, but those businesses can be tough to run and develop, especially if the owners are farmers themselves. That’s why the Practical Farmers of Iowa started their Cover Crop Business Accelerator Program, which offers tailored business coaching, technical guidance, and financial incentives for cover crop businesses. Wade Dooley, a diversified crop and livestock farmer out of Albion, said it’s a delicate balance between his cover crop business and his own farm.
Dooley said his business started as just a way to earn some extra revenue, but it has since evolved into a full-fledged business.
Dooley is a participant in the Practical Farmers of Iowa Cover Crop Business Accelerator Program, which he said is what allowed his business to grow into what it is today.
